These terms are written for practical booking clarity. If a specific hike has custom conditions, those written booking details will apply together with these terms.
1. Booking and confirmation
A booking is confirmed only once Fred has accepted the date, route, group details, and any agreed payment or deposit requirements in writing. All hikes are subject to guide availability, route suitability, weather, trail access, and safety considerations.
2. Hike types and route scope
Best Cape Town Hikes offers guided Cape Town hiking experiences such as Lion's Head sunrise hikes, Table Mountain sunset hikes, night hikes, private group hikes, and other route options discussed during booking.
Route distance, terrain, elevation, exposure, timing, and difficulty can vary. Guests should choose a route that suits their fitness, confidence, and outdoor experience.
3. Outdoor risk
Hiking is an outdoor activity with inherent risks. These may include uneven ground, loose rock, slippery surfaces, physical exertion, sudden weather changes, limited mobile reception, route exposure, dehydration, heat, wind, falls, and other natural hazards.
By joining a hike, you acknowledge these risks and agree to participate responsibly.
4. Health, fitness, and guest responsibility
- Guests are responsible for being fit enough for the chosen hike.
- Any injuries, medical conditions, medication needs, pregnancy, mobility limits, or relevant concerns should be disclosed before the hike.
- Guests must bring suitable footwear, water, sun protection, warm layers, snacks, and route-specific items requested by the guide.
- Guests must follow the guide's instructions and act with care for themselves, the group, and the mountain environment.
5. Guide decisions and safety
Fred or the assigned guide may change the route, pace, start time, turnaround point, or plan if conditions make this sensible. A hike may also be postponed, shortened, or cancelled where safety, weather, visibility, route access, or group wellbeing requires it.
Guide decisions are made in the best interests of the group and must be respected during the hike.
6. Arrival and punctuality
Guests should arrive at the confirmed meeting point on time, preferably 10 to 15 minutes early. Late arrival can affect daylight, group safety, and route timing. If a guest misses the agreed start time, participation, refunds, or rescheduling are not guaranteed.
7. Weather, trail access, and route changes
Cape Town mountain conditions can change quickly. Light wind, cloud, or cool conditions do not automatically make a hike unsafe. If conditions become unsuitable, Fred may suggest a different route, time, date, or cancellation.
8. Cancellations and refunds
Cancellation, refund, reschedule, and no-show rules are explained in the Cancellation Policy, which forms part of these terms.
9. Children and minors
Minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Routes for children are considered case by case according to age, fitness, confidence, route difficulty, and conditions on the day.
10. Transport and meeting points
Unless specifically agreed in writing, guests are responsible for getting to and from the meeting point. Exact meeting details are confirmed after booking and may depend on the selected route.
11. Photos and media
Photos or short videos may be taken during hikes for memories, route promotion, or social media. If you do not want to appear in photos or videos, please tell Fred before the hike begins.
12. Personal belongings and insurance
Guests are responsible for their own belongings, valuables, travel insurance, medical insurance, cancellation cover, and any rescue, medical, evacuation, or transport costs that may arise.
13. Limitation of liability
Best Cape Town Hikes and its guides take reasonable care when planning and guiding hikes. To the fullest extent allowed by South African law, they are not liable for loss, injury, illness, delays, costs, or damage arising from outdoor conditions, guest actions, third-party services, or circumstances outside their reasonable control.
14. Website and third-party services
This website may link to services such as WhatsApp, Instagram, Google Maps, or payment and booking platforms. Those services are operated by third parties and have their own terms and privacy practices.
